GUN CALIBER DICTIONARY

Rifle 6.5mm Remington Magnum
The 6.5mm Remington Magnum was introduced in 1966 as a companion introduction to the 350 Remington Magnum in Remington's Model 600 carbine. It is based on the standard belted magnum case shortened to 2.1701 to fit into short actions; and necked down to take a .264-inch bullet. Things are changing today, but at that time no 6.5mm cartridge attained lasting popularity in North America. Despite numerous marketing efforts the 6.5mm Remington Magnum never became popular...but it was and is a very fine little cartridge. With a 120-grain bullet at 3210 fps it is very close to the 270 Winchester in performance, yet able to be housed in a short bolt action.  — Craig Boddington
